LGBTQIA+, or Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Trans & Gender Diverse, Queer and Questioning, Intersex, Asexual, is an umbrella term representing the community of people who identify as something other than heterosexual (straight) or cisgender (the gender assigned to them at birth based on their biological sex).
Idee specializes in working with LGBTQIA+ clients, and firmly believes that love is love – your sexual orientation and/or gender identity are not a choice, they are an integral part of who you are. To Idee, it doesn’t matter who you are attracted to or how you identify – you are valid in that identity and she will work with you to ensure you aren’t being hurt in your identity journey. She recognizes that internalized homophobia can be prevalent, and believes it can and should be worked through in order for you to live your best possible life.
Discrimination is unfortunately still a reality faced by LGBTQIA+ folks everywhere – while you cannot control the actions and attitudes of those around you, therapy can help you process and heal from any acts or incidents of discrimination and trauma that are holding you back from being your full self.
Diversity defines the LGBTQIA+ community. It is not a one-size-fits-all category – your needs, questions and struggles are different from anyone else who identifies as LGBTQIA+. You may know already where you identify on the spectrum. You may be questioning who you are. Therapy with Idee prioritizes an inclusive acceptance of who we are.
You may not be sure if you fit into this category. It is perfectly okay to be still questioning who you are and who you are attracted to. Idee is here to listen and help you work through it at your own pace, without any judgement. Idee will help you on your journey to find acceptance within yourself and will provide you with affirming care at all stages of your healing journey.
Idee also offers services to people that don’t identify as LGBTQIA+, but have a family member or loved one who has come out to them. This can feel like a big change, and it is normal to need support and guidance as you navigate this new territory. If you are having a difficult time understanding your loved one’s identity and wanting them to feel loved and accepted, Idee can guide you through that process. Homophobia can lead to judgement and alienation if not dealt with and eliminated, and therapy is the best place to deal with any negative feelings you may have so you can preserve your relationship with your loved one. These issues can be very challenging, and seeking help is a big step!
